Welcome to the Byron Magpies Junior Footy Club – part of the AFL Northern Rivers League (AFLNR) along with Ballina, Tweed, Casino, Lismore, Murwillumbah, Brunswick and Kingscliff.

We are a club focused on Family, Fun, Friendliness, Fitness, Fairness….as well as Footy!

  • Our coaches are all working towards completion of their Working with Children Checks and Level 1 Coach accreditation (minimum). We aim to have this done by the start of season April.

  • Coaches will run through codes of conduct with all of our players as well as all of our parents, and these will be available for review on our website.

  • Platinum Sponsors $2000: Future Dreamers who support the growth & flourishing of girls & young women into healthy, creative, confident & compassionate people.

  • Other sponsors:

  • 2019 Partners: Brunswick Holistic Dental Centre

  • Our primary means of communicating with Parents/Kids is via our WhatsApp, Facebook page & our Website.

  • Match Day Uniforms: The Byron Magpies Club will provide a match day jersey to be worn for the duration of the game & returned at the end of the game. Shorts & socks are not provided but are available for purchase from club directly and at canteen on match days.

  • We encourage players to wear club polos on Sundays and change into footy jerseys before the game. Club polos are available to purchase from club directly and at canteen on match days.

  • Players from U10's on must wear mouth guards. A mouth guard from the Chemist is cheap but arguably inefficient. Brunswick Holistic Dental will provide HUGELY discounted mouthguards from $50 - to our club. Mouth guard  impressions will be taken at the first few weeks of training.

  • Commencing April-August, Training days are Tuesday afternoons at Cavanbah Centre.  All other age groups from 4.30 - 06:00 pm. Please bring a water bottle to training and match days.

  • The Suns Superstars are effectively a group of kids who wish to transition from the 8-week Auskick program to play for the Magpies. They are effectively our U7’s team.

  • If the weather is too wet, the council closes the Cavanbah fields and this is updated asap on our WhatsApp groups, FB page and website. Our coaches/managers will also do their best to send a text message to the parent group(same applies to match days).

  • Match days in the canteen (our major source of income). Lydia Burth will be running the canteen in 2019.

We will organise this by age group with the following roster.

The season commences 7th April & we will host approx. 10 home games.

Each home game a group of parents/grandparents/friends from an age group will run the Canteen from set up to pack down.

NB: all the information required to have a successful day at the canteen will be available by season commencement.

  • The AFLNR creates the fixture for our season. They cannot confirm this fixture until all the clubs have confirmed their players & teams. Please register & pay fees asap in order for the league to prepare the season fixture for everybody.

  • Coaches contact details are on the website.

  • We are seeking assistant coaches and team managers for each team. Pls check in with the Coach and offer your services if you can

  • If anyone takes some good photos of the kids, could you please send them through to

  • Please, be reminded that all coaches and committee positions are filled with people volunteering their time. Meeting parents and kids expectation in sport can be a tricky job for volunteer coaches/team managers to navigate. It is important to know from the outset, that we all do our best to ensure a fun and positive experience for everybody, and we rely on all parties to communicate well together and discuss concerns openly and honestly. As President, I am always available to chat with anybody who has concerns or wishes to make suggestions. We aim to be an inclusive and fun club for all members.

  • Number 1 rule is to ensure that you and us keep footy fun for the kids.
